Distinctive wheels so that people won’t steal them, at least that’s how I see it.

The thing I found most irritating about directional wheels is, that likely due to cost, they only make them for one side. So the other side of the car will just look a bit off.

The directional thing is not even a recent thing for them.

Goes back to the late 80s, at least.

If you think Honda is the only one doing this, you’re wrong. Its been done by a hell of a lot of other automakers, its just that Honda puts them on a lot of their concepts/show cars.

I like how that’s working out for them!

You’ve noticed how Accord Sport wheels, the ones that look the most normal, are the most stolen? It’s because they can easily pass as high-end aftermarket wheels, whereas you see one of the wheels posted above and you instantly know it’s from a modern Honda.

The blades on the 5th gen Prelude didn’t have directional markings on the inside, so you see a lot of neglected 5th gens with wheels on the wrong side or mismatched.

Correct (notice it’s the opposite of the 3rd gen. All examples my car):

Incorrect:

Even worse (at the time I bought the car, it had three of one direction and one of the other for some reason):

I used to have a ‘95 Si with those wheels. I kept one when I sold it for parts (it was totaled).

My current 4G has the rare ‘95 SE wheels, and for awhile it had the 96-97 Integra Type R wheels.

I think the 2016 Honda wheels are terrible.

I’m glad were were shopping for 2015s when this base wheel was available. (below)

Kinja'd!!!

.... otherwise I would have had to pay for the 2016 aftermarket wheels, which I don’t really like. (below)

Kinja'd!!!

I think base wheels should be understated.
